New Year's in Hawaii
My wife and I are planning on spending New Year's in Oahu. We are very excited and can't wait to relax and enjoy the warm sunny weather. We purchased the plane tickets back in June since they were only $500 a piece then. Now they're well over a thousand dollars for one round trip ticket! And I'm sure the prices will continue to rise for that time period. The best way to fly to Hawaii during peak times is to plan and purchase early or you're gonna get screwed.
We have a hotel booked also. The hotel is actually right along Waikiki Beach, which will be awesome if we just want to walk along the beach at night or relax in the sun for a little while...a few yards from our hotel room. :) It's a newly remodeled hotel...so it should prove to be some interesting review material. The only thing I'm not excited about is the hotel is valet parking only. For $25 a day plus any tips, that's gonna be pretty pricey. Right now I'm doing some research on parking garages and services nearby. I might be able to swing $80 or $90 for a month of parking even though we'll only be in Oahu for 10 days. If not, we might have to forgo the whole car rental idea and enjoy the island by other means of transportation.
New Year's in Hawaii should be an exciting and new experience for us. We've heard from some friends that the fireworks off Waikiki Beach are spectacular. New Year's Eve should be a really romantic evening for us. Maybe I'll surprise my wife with a nice dinner at an upscale restaurant to get the evening's festivities started. Anybody got any suggestions?

Compliments to the ex-Hawaiian Airlines for having the best fares. Who knows if we will be able to see good airfares without competition, due to the growing of the Alaska Airlines. I hope that all the travelers and visitors of Hawaii will be able to affect the prices in the long-run.
That is all for now.
Yes, the Alaska Airlines does have a bit of a monopoly up here in Alaska now that they've bought out part of Hawaiian Vacations. From what I hear, they might be under investigation for that. We need the competition to keep the airline prices affordable!
