Today we drove to the East side of Oahu and hung out in Kailua for most of the day. I really like this town and it's big enough to have a Macy's. We rented out a kayak from Kailua Sail Boards and wheeled it down to the beach. We decided to paddle around the canal for a bit to get our "sea legs". It rained on us pretty hard and it was windy and cold. It was miserable until we decided to head to the open sea and try it out. It wasn't that hard getting through the waves on shore, but when Olya was getting into the kayak, she tipped us over...lol. The easiest way to getting on the kayak is to do a sort of a belly flop. I guess Olya wasn't paying attention to the instructional video we watched earlier...lol. So much for a graceful entrance!

Anyhow it was pretty difficult paddling against the strong trade winds (15-20mph), but it was a lot of fun. We paddled out to Flat Island and hung out there for a bit, took pictures, and got some sun. Oh yeah, it stopped raining on the way out to the island and the sun smiled down upon us. The water on the East side of Oahu is so clear and when the sun's out, it's so amazingly clear. The paddle back was really quick since the trade winds were at our backs.

After dropping off the kayak, we walked around Kailua a bit and ate some lunch at a small sandwich and salad shop called Aloha Salads. Everything was simple and fresh and tasted good after being out on the water for 3 hours. The crazy thing about the place was the 70 inch Pioneer Plasma they had up on the wall displaying their menu. Wish it was in our living room!
