Back in Alaska
We have made it back to our home after traveling on Hawaiian Airlines. Even though a tropical vacation is a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, there is nothing like coming home. We had a wonderful time and wished it went a little longer since the last 3 days were nice and sunny because the weather cleared up. I'll be posting up pictures, videos, reviews, and travel tips soon. If anyone is going to Hawaii, this is the perfect site to share your trip with family and friends. I received many compliments from people that have followed my travel blog.
Sailing on a Catamaran
Today, we went sailing on a catamaran and saw humpback whales and some dolphins, but they were too far away for a good photo. We used the last day of our Oahu Go Card to spend 4 hours on the open ocean with Makani Catarman. It was a blast! I've never been on a sailboat before and have always wanted to try. The sea was not very choppy and we didn't get wet from any waves. Bummer!
Kayaking Adventure
Today we drove to the East side of Oahu and hung out in Kailua for most of the day. I really like this town and it's big enough to have a Macy's. We rented out a kayak from Kailua Sail Boards and wheeled it down to the beach. We decided to paddle around the canal for a bit to get our "sea legs". It rained on us pretty hard and it was windy and cold. It was miserable until we decided to head to the open sea and try it out.
Rainy and Cold
Since it's the winter season in Hawaii, the nice weather can be a hit or miss. The last couple days have been a miss with inconsistent rain and some chilly weather. It's not as chilly as Alaska, but today I was getting goose bumps in Hawaii for the first time ever. I didn't think to bring a sweat shirt or anything with me today, so I had a few moments of goose bumps. Let's hope the weather clears up for the last 4 days of our stay here so I can get some Vitamin D...lol.
Happy New Year 2008!!!
It is a new year!...Olya and I had a pretty interesting evening full of good food, drinks, fireworks, and crazy people. The evening's festivities started out with a 1.6 mile walk to PF Chang's Chinese Bistro. But the long walk was worth it!
So Much For Sleep
Well a funny thing happened last night. Our room's air conditioner was making some weird water running noises, even when the thermostat was turned to off. It was pretty loud. Neither one of us could sleep, so we called the hotel front desk and they sent up a maintenance guru. The verdict?
Tired...but Happy to be in Paradise
Aloha!...we have arrived in Hawaii at last. After flying an early morning flight from Anchorage, we landed safely at the Honolulu Airport. The plane had to be de-iced before take off so we were 30 minutes late. Sleeping (err...trying to sleep) on an airplane has never been my favorite pastime since I'm over 6 feet tall and flying coach puts me in the fetal position. After getting off our plane, we were a little out of it and decided to walk to the inter-island terminal to retrieve our luggage instead of waiting with the crowd to catch the terminal shuttle.
JohnnyJet's in Maui
Lately I've been cruising around on travel websites where real people are blogging about their travels and sharing photos of what they saw and did. Kinda like this site. :) I've been learning alot about different international places I could visit and have been getting ideas with where I could take hawaiiandreams.net... Anyhow, one of my favorite websites is johnnyjet.com. I've been really enjoying reading Johnny's weekly updates from around the world and seeing what he's been up to. I get almost impatient waiting to see what he will share in the coming week!
50 First Dates
There's nothing like watching movies to motivate a person to think about far away places. I know whenever I watch a movie that's shot in a different state or country, I always imagine what it would be like to visit that place or live at that location. That's especially true if the cinemaphotography provides great scenic shots and immerses the viewer into how the place really looks.
New Year's in Hawaii
My wife and I are planning on spending New Year's in Oahu. We are very excited and can't wait to relax and enjoy the warm sunny weather. We purchased the plane tickets back in June since they were only $500 a piece then. Now they're well over a thousand dollars for one round trip ticket! And I'm sure the prices will continue to rise for that time period. The best way to fly to Hawaii during peak times is to plan and
